Standby generator hookup — Alpha Gas Services, Jacksonville FL

Generators are unforgiving about gas supply: too little pressure at full load and the unit shuts down exactly when you need it. We size the line for the generator's rated BTU, add a branch or upsize the run from the meter when needed, and install the shut-off valve and sediment trap the manufacturer and code require.

We work alongside your electrician or generator dealer and handle only the gas side, on the schedule the installation needs. Residential units, commercial units and propane tank hookups for homes without natural gas.

What we install

  • Gas lines for Generac, Kohler, Briggs and other standby generators
  • Load calculation and line sizing for full-load operation
  • Meter upgrades and dedicated branch lines
  • Propane tank hookups where there is no natural gas
  • Shut-off valves, regulators and sediment traps to code
  • Commercial and multi-generator installations

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what customers ask us most. Anything else? Call or text and we'll walk you through it.

Can my existing gas meter handle a generator?

Sometimes. Many residential meters need to be upgraded by the gas utility when a large generator is added. We calculate the total load and tell you if a meter upgrade is needed before any work starts.

Do you install the generator too?

We install the gas piping and the final gas connection. The electrical work and the unit placement are handled by your electrician or generator dealer; we coordinate with them.

Natural gas or propane for a generator?

Either. Natural gas gives you unlimited runtime if it is available at the street; propane works anywhere with a properly sized tank and regulator.

How long does the gas line take?

Most residential generator lines are completed in one day once the unit is set and the permit is in place.
